I guess its easiest to say Im an extremely nerdy girl of the best age, forever curious about everything and nothing in the IT world. I started unofficially in the biz at the age of 12 when I bought my first computer, a Sinclair Spectrum with whopping 48k of RAM. It was kinda love at first sight and I became obsessed with playing games but also learn to understand how the hardware and software worked from the system level. I was more interested in getting things to work one way or the other and a wasnt afraid of using pliers or screwdrivers to make my stand. In other words, the magic of that little black box was facinating and I was completely drawn in. Fast forward ten years there was this underground buzz about something called the Internet which I had my first taste of in the form of an antiquated PC with a 2400 bps modem hooked up to it. You see, not being a rich bitch made it so I started early scavenging hardware and usually made it work one way or the other so my room was usually filled with what some people might call junk but for me was precious gold and so it was an old PC and Supra modem smuggled from Finland became my first contact to what we know today as the internet. Now, Mosaic 1.0 and a b&w monitor is light years away from what we enjoy today and the pages load a tad faster, from 3 minutes loading a simple page down to the blink of an eye in full color and graphics but one has to start somewhere, right. Fast forward still and in 1995 I became aware of another buzz, this time the grapwine whispered about a new and exiting OS called Linux and it was supposedly a clone of Unix written by some finnish dude. Naturally I got interested and the same year I installed Yggdrasil Linux 1.0 on a PC. I had some prior knowledge of the unix world so it wasnt hard to understand this was something different. I completely fell on my knees for the future and embraced it as much as I could. It would become a love affair which has lasted 30 years and Linux has followed me both in private and practice wherever I go so yeah, I guess you could say Im a major Linux nerd. Now saying that is something but the reality is Ive worked in IT for more than 30 years and done pretty much every job there is, from repairing computers to managing storage for server farms with with tens of thousands and hosts. And belive me when I say its all been fun and games. In fact, I dare to say I havent worked for more than 30 years. Its all been a lot of fun and still is. Being a professional nerd comes with its perks and priviledges which are hard to find in other occupations. At the same time I realize Ive lived in unique times when a whole new world was being born and since it all was so new we had to make it up as we went. The world might be different today but its still a lot of fun if you know where to look.
This site is about my interests and opinions and I dont really care if you are that special little snow flake who freaks out by every little thing, deal with it.
Apart from the the necessary pictures, the site should be fully viewable in Lynx or Links2 text based browses and upwards.
The site is written only in html with some css directly in the terminal. It runs on a nested Hyperion custom s390x installation.
Kudos go out to The Girl and King Charlie 12 for advice, comments, tips and actually teaching me how to write text based html.
